Wednesday Special Sessions
The Wednesday Special Sessions will start at 1:00 PM, giving doctors a chance to travel Wednesday morning and preserve valuable time in your office. Cultural Diversity Parts I and II will focus on cultural competence in eye care.
The rapidly changing ethnicity of America presents unique challenges and opportunities for today's optometrist. In addition to culturally specific medical conditions, there are cultural patient care, practice management, marketing, human resource, and medical-legal issues facing today's practitioner. This entertaining and enlightening course provides doctors with key clinical, public health, and practice building insights. The presentation defines cultural competence, discusses the new paradigms in medical practice and assists the practitioner in evaluating their practice and its level of cultural competence. After defining cultural competence in eye care today, the course will focus on the three fastest growing ethnicities in America today - patients of Hispanic, African and Asian decent. Upon completion of the course, the practitioner will gain a clearer understanding of culture's impact on health outcomes and be better prepared to serve the needs of a diverse patient base.
