SECO INTERNATIONAL 2005 CALL FOR POSTERS

The October 15, 2004 deadline is approaching quickly! Have you submitted your poster abstract for multimedia posters for the upcoming SECO congress, February 23-27, 2005? SECO is currently accepting poster abstracts until October 15, 2004. To submit a poster abstract, CLICK HERE. SECO will notify selected authors by November 1, 2004; all materials must be submitted by December 31, 2004.

Multimedia posters are Microsoft PowerPoint presentations of traditional educational posters. Authors can include images, audio and even video to enhance their presentation. A panel of peers will review and select 50 posters for publishing at the congress. Selected posters will be published during the congress and identified in a separate list of congress posters, available at the Advanced Media Learning Center (AMLC). SECO will also publish selected posters on www.SECOInternational.com where the posters will remain online for up to three years.

SECO International offers a small honorarium for each poster accepted. SECO International also awards one complimentary registration (a $300+ value) for each poster or test accepted. SECO fulfills its poster quota quickly. If you have any questions, please contact Jon Reading at 770-451-8206.

AOA'S INFANTSEE PROGRAM IS TAKING OFF

InfantSEE™, the AOA's public health infants' program, is aiming to find a minimum of 6000 AOA members to register to participate in the program as it moves forward in the next 5 months.

The first year of life is one of the most critical stages of human development. Because of this, the InfantSEE™ program follows the AOA Clinical Practice Guidelines and recommends that children receive their first comprehensive eye assessment before twelve months of age. Many doctors already providing infant primary care services as test sites for InfantSEE™ suggest that the best age to assess an infant is between six and nine months.

By providing this service to infant patients who have never received professional eye care, InfantSEE™ optometrists will be investing in their community's and their nation's future. The program is designed as a "no cost, no billing" program to demonstrate the profession's belief that this is a true public health program. The benevolence of the program is an investment in the visual welfare of America's youth."SECO joins the AOA in requesting that you fill out an application to become an InfantSee provider. This process began with Operation Bright Start, and has metamorphosized into InfantSee.

Dr. Richard Phillips, president of SECO International is encouraged by the program, "This is a tremendous program for our profession, that will not only grow your practices, but one that has the capability of essentially eliminating amblyopia by early detection. SECO, along with our partners in the industry, has strongly supported OBS, and continues to support InfantSee as something that is exceptionally beneficial for the general public and good for optometry. SECO joins the AOA in encouraging the participation of all optometrists."

By registering, doctors agree to perform one-time eye assessments to infants twelve months and under at no-cost and to educate young parents about the importance of regular eye assessments as a part of their well-baby health care routine. To register, simply e-mail the AOA at infantsee@aoa.org, include your name, the name of your practice, and your address.

MONTHLY ROUNDS

Starting this fall, SECO will present a Grand Rounds from our Digital Grand Rounds. Test your diagnostic skills and see how quickly you can answer the question.

The purpose of DGR is to create a library of grand rounds that optometrists can research to improve their diagnostic skills. If you are interested in submitting a DGR of your own, you can submit your material online. Who knows, maybe your case will make it into Digital Grand Rounds!
