This patient was diagnosed with Type II juxtafoveal retinal telangiectasis. This condition typically features mild telangiectasis just temporal to the fovea. It can leak and have intraretinal crystals that have a glistening appearance as this patient has. The veins can be blunted. They are sometimes described as having a "right angle" appearance as they dive into the retina. Patients can also have a stellate plaque of pigment such as this patient which is the result of mild photoreceptor degeneration from chronic fluid leakage.
Visual acuity often remain good, but may slip to be 20/60 to 20/200. Laser treatment has been tried, but has had limited success. Observation is the only other management scenario.
